This Cookie Policy explains how ClimateCrop, Inc. ("ClimateCrop," "we," "us," or "our") uses cookies and similar tracking technologies when you visit our website at climate-crop.org (the "Site"). It explains what these technologies are, why we use them, and your rights to control our use of them.

Please read this policy carefully. By continuing to use our Site after viewing this notice, you acknowledge that you have read and understood our use of cookies as described below. You can withdraw your consent at any time by following the instructions in Section 6 (Managing Your Cookie Preferences).

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your computer, smartphone, tablet, or other internet-connected device when you visit a website. They are widely used by website operators to make websites function correctly, work more efficiently, and to provide reporting and analytical information.

Cookies are set by the website you are visiting ("first-party cookies") or by third parties whose content appears on the page — such as analytics providers or embedded video players ("third-party cookies"). First-party cookies can typically only be read by the site that created them. Third-party cookies can be read by the third party that sets them across any site where they appear.

Cookies perform different functions. Some are necessary for the technical operation of the website. Others allow us to understand how visitors use the Site so that we can improve it. Still others enable features that make your experience more convenient.

Cookie Lifetime

Cookies can remain on your device for different periods of time:

  • Session Cookies — These are temporary cookies that exist only while your browser is open. They are deleted automatically when you close your browser. Session cookies are typically used to maintain state as you navigate between pages.
  • Persistent Cookies — These remain on your device for a defined period after your browser is closed. They are activated each time you visit the website that created them. The duration varies; it may be minutes, days, months, or years depending on the purpose of the cookie.

Similar Technologies

In addition to cookies, we may use other similar technologies such as:

  • Web Beacons (Pixel Tags) — Small graphic images (1×1 pixel) embedded in web pages or emails. They allow us to track whether a page was accessed or an email was opened.
  • Local Storage — A browser-based storage mechanism that allows websites to store data locally on your device, similar to cookies but with greater storage capacity and no expiry date unless explicitly cleared.
  • JavaScript Tags — Small pieces of JavaScript code that can collect information about your browser and device to enable analytics and feature tracking.

2. How We Use Cookies

ClimateCrop uses cookies for a range of purposes that help us provide you with a high-quality experience on our Site. Specifically, we use cookies to:

  • Ensure the technical operation and security of the Site (e.g., preventing fraudulent activity and ensuring pages load correctly).
  • Remember your preferences, such as your cookie consent choices, so you don't need to re-enter them on each visit.
  • Understand how visitors navigate and interact with our Site through aggregate, anonymized analytics data.
  • Identify which pages and content are most popular so we can improve the quality and relevance of information we publish.
  • Measure the effectiveness of any outreach campaigns or partnerships.
  • Improve the overall performance and speed of the Site for all visitors.

We do not use cookies for advertising, behavioral profiling, or selling personal data to third parties. ClimateCrop is a science and technology company, not an advertising platform. Our use of cookies is strictly limited to what is necessary to operate and improve our informational website.

3. Types of Cookies We Use

We categorize the cookies we use according to their purpose:

Strictly Necessary Cookies

These cookies are essential for the website to function and cannot be switched off. They are typically set in response to your actions — such as setting your privacy preferences, logging in, or filling in forms. You can set your browser to block these cookies, but parts of the Site may not then work correctly. These cookies do not store any personally identifiable information.

Preference / Functionality Cookies

These cookies enable the Site to provide enhanced functionality and personalization. They may be set by us or by third-party providers whose services we have added to our pages. If you do not allow these cookies, some or all of these services may not function properly.

Analytics / Performance Cookies

These cookies allow us to count visits and traffic sources so we can measure and improve the performance of our Site. They help us understand which pages are the most and least popular and see how visitors move around the Site. All information these cookies collect is aggregated and anonymous. If you do not allow these cookies, we will not be able to monitor Site performance effectively.

Marketing / Targeting Cookies

ClimateCrop does not currently use marketing or targeting cookies on this Site. We do not use cookies for behavioral advertising or cross-site tracking.

4. Detailed Cookie List

The following table lists the specific cookies currently set on our Site. Cookie names and durations may be updated as we improve the Site; we will update this Policy accordingly.

Cookie Name Type Duration Purpose
cookie_consent Preference 1 year Stores your cookie consent choice (accepted / declined) so the banner is not shown on every visit.
cc_session Strictly Necessary Session Maintains your session state as you navigate between pages. Deleted when the browser is closed.
_ga Analytics 2 years Google Analytics identifier used to distinguish unique visitors. Stores a randomly generated client ID. All data is anonymized.
_ga_* Analytics 2 years Google Analytics 4 session persistence cookie. Maintains session-level tracking for aggregate traffic reporting.
_gid Analytics 24 hours Google Analytics cookie used to distinguish users. Expires after 24 hours; set on each visit.
_gat Analytics 1 minute Used to throttle request rate for Google Analytics. Limits the collection of data on high-traffic sites.
ls_cookie_pref Preference 6 months Local storage key (not a cookie) storing your cookie preference banner state. Used as a fallback where cookies are blocked.

Note: We use Google Analytics with IP anonymization enabled. This means the last octet of your IP address is deleted before any data is stored or processed by Google's servers. We do not allow Google to use or share our analytics data for Google's own purposes.

5. Third-Party Cookies

Some cookies on our Site are set by third parties. These third parties may have their own privacy policies governing the use of data collected through their cookies. We encourage you to review those policies. The third parties whose cookies appear on our Site include:

Google Analytics (Google LLC)

We use Google Analytics 4 to collect aggregate, anonymized statistics about Site usage. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect information such as how often users visit the Site, which pages they visit, and what other sites they used prior to arriving at our Site. We use this information only to improve our Site's content and usability. We do not use Google Analytics to collect any personally identifiable information.

  • Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
  • Opt-out: Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on

We have configured Google Analytics with the following privacy settings:

  • IP anonymization is enabled on all sessions.
  • Data retention is set to the minimum period (14 months).
  • Data sharing with Google products and services is disabled.
  • Advertising features (e.g., remarketing) are disabled.
  • User-ID feature is not enabled.

Content Delivery Networks (CDNs)

Our Site may serve some resources (such as web fonts) from third-party content delivery networks. These providers may set technical cookies necessary to deliver content efficiently. Such cookies do not track user behavior for advertising purposes.

6. Managing Your Cookie Preferences

You have the right to decide whether to accept or reject non-essential cookies. When you first visit our Site, you are presented with a cookie consent banner that allows you to:

  • Accept — Consent to our use of analytics and preference cookies in addition to strictly necessary cookies.
  • Decline — Reject non-essential cookies. Only strictly necessary cookies (which are required for the Site to function) will be set.

Your preference is stored in your browser's local storage under the key cookie_consent. This storage entry is valid for one year from the date of your choice. After one year, you will be asked to confirm your preferences again.

Withdrawing Consent

You may withdraw consent at any time by:

  • Clearing your browser's cookies and local storage (which will reset your preference and show the banner on your next visit).
  • Contacting us at [email protected] to request assistance with cookie preference management.

Please note that withdrawing consent to non-essential cookies does not affect the lawfulness of any processing that occurred prior to your withdrawal, nor does it affect processing carried out on the basis of lawful processing grounds other than consent.

7. Browser-Level Cookie Settings

In addition to using our consent banner, you can control and manage cookies through your browser settings. Please note that removing or blocking cookies may impact your experience on our Site and some features may not function correctly.

Instructions for managing cookies in the most common browsers:

Mobile Browsers

On iOS devices, you can manage cookies in Settings → Safari → Privacy & Security. On Android devices, open Chrome and go to Settings → Privacy → Clear browsing data or Site settings → Cookies.

For more general information about cookies and instructions for all major browsers, visit www.allaboutcookies.org or www.aboutcookies.org.

8. Do Not Track Signals

Some browsers include a "Do Not Track" (DNT) feature that signals to websites that you visit that you do not want to have your online activity tracked. Currently, there is no accepted universal standard for how websites should respond to DNT signals, and we do not currently alter our data collection and use practices in response to DNT signals.

However, we note that we do not engage in cross-site behavioral tracking or advertising-related tracking regardless of whether a DNT signal is present. Our analytics collection is anonymized and aggregate in nature, and is used exclusively for Site improvement purposes.

If a legally binding standard for DNT interpretation is established, we will update our practices and this Policy accordingly.

9. Updates to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the cookies we use, changes in applicable law, or improvements to our website. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this Policy. In some circumstances, we may provide more prominent notice or, where required by law, seek your renewed consent.

We encourage you to review this Cookie Policy periodically to stay informed about our use of cookies. Your continued use of our Site following any updates to this Policy constitutes your acknowledgment of the updated terms.

The current version of this Cookie Policy is always available at climate-crop.org/legal/cookies.html. Previous versions of this policy are available upon request by contacting us at the address below.
